The new Queensland State Velodrome has been built at the southern end of the Sleeman Sports Complex in Chandler and will provide a new centre of excellence for cycling in Queensland.
This is Queensland’s first indoor velodrome, a new world class facility that will attract elite training squads and competition events to further the development of cycling in Queensland. It boasts a world class timber track and streamlined roof design to overcome the weather limitations of the former outdoor velodrome, which was originally built for the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games.
The velodrome is more than just a track cycling facility, the in-field area has the capacity to provide for a range of additional sport and recreation uses through the provision of mixed-use sports courts.
The velodrome was completed late 2016 and will host the Track Cycling competition for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
